How many Business analysts do real analysis?
Somehow, most BAs are told in the initial stages of their career that users 'give' requirements and if the requirements are not correct or complete, then the users are to be blamed!!. Business Analysis is much more than ‘getting requirements’. Requirements are not there to be 'given' or 'gathered' as if you are plucking fruits from a tree.
We need to stress more on two things:
First, the process involved, which is fundamentally about getting an 'expert' level of understanding about the business. Second, using your understanding of business and applying the right techniques to help business sponsors make decisions on scope, impact, prioritisation and choice of technology solutions. In this process, requirements will emerge naturally and logically, instead of being “given”. We need more focus on these critical analysis skills which is the stuff of true business analysis.
